Updates On Internet Tax Rhode Island, Hawaii and North Carolina

by Melanie on June 26, 2009

Several updates on pending Internet tax legislation, with very little to be happy about.

Earlier this morning I posted on NYAffiliateVoice that due to proposed or pending legislation, Amazon has removed North Carolina and Hawaii affiliates from their Associates program, North Carolina’s removal is effective today.  Although they had warned of this action earlier, many affiliates have been surprised by the swift action. Action had to be swift in Hawaii because the law is set to take effect July – unless the Governor makes a last minute decision to veto.  Please see Amazon Terminate Hawaii and North Carolina for additional information and thoughts.

Rhode Island is also inching closer. The Internet Tax is part of the Budget bill which passed Assembly early Thursday morning. It has now been sent to Senate where it is believed it will easily pass.  Full details at Rhode Island Internet Tax.

As a reminder,  in depth coverage of the Internet Tax issues is at NYAffiliateVoice.com. I provide brief summaries here for convenience of Affiliate Voice members and other readers.

Please consult your own attorney and accountant for advice on all issues.

Representative Thom Tillis understands the magnitude of this legislation and how it will impact NC affiliates.

Here’s the latest from him:
